Some of the country’s hottest improv, sketch and stand-up artists will embark on Charleston for what has become the annual event you don’t want to miss!
Theatre 99 is Charleston’s Home for Improv Comedy! Founded in 2000 by The Have Nots! Comedy Improv Company, the current Theatre 99 opened in 2005. There are improv shows every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights during the year and it is also host to Piccolo Fringe during the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Theatre 99’s improv training program offers improv instruction from beginning to advanced levels for adults and teens. Theatre 99’s company is 30 members strong and is constantly creating new improv and scripted material premiering year round.

The Charleston Stand up Competition
The Charleston Comedy Festival is proud to present the first annual Charleston Stand up Competition. Are you funny? Do you know some one who cracks you up? Are you the kind of person that will do anything to get a laugh? Then we have the competition for you. You could be crowned the first ever champion of the the Charleston Stand up Competition. You can perform for your friends and a bunch of drunk strangers. This could be the beginning of a brilliant career. All you have to do is sign up. The guidelines are below. Be a part of history or get booed off stage for the first time – it could happen to you.
The Charleston Stand up Competition is an official part of the 2008 Charleston Comedy Festival. This years competition will be held at the Music Farm at 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 16th and will be hosted by local favorite and stand up comic Kenny Z. Kenny Z has moved to NYC and will be performing 2 stand up shows during the Comedy Festival see schedule for dates and times. Guidelines below.
The Charleston Stand up Competition Submission guidelines for entry:
- You must be18 years of age or older.
- You must register via phone or e mail with Theatre 99 no later than midnight Monday, January 14th.
- You must be available Wednesday, January 16th from 7:30 until 10:30PM.
- You must arrive at the Music Farm at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, January 16th.
- You must be funny.
